IRS still holding lots of last year’s refunds

The Internal Revenue Service recently reported that it is holding $153.3 million in undelivered tax refund checks that is owed to 99,123 taxpayers. That is an average undelivered refund of almost $1,550. These refunds could not be delivered to the taxpayers because of mailing address errors.

A natural time to check to see whether you received last year’s refund is when your current return is being prepared. Taxpayers can check the IRS website “Where’s My Refund” to see if you have money owed and instructions regarding next steps to take.
